ARC Raiders has confirmed a hotfix after reports said linked Discord accounts could write private DMs and bearer tokens into local plaintext log files.

TL;DR

This was a real privacy scare, not just message-board panic. Multiple outlets reported the issue, Embark acknowledged excessive Discord SDK logging, and the studio said it shipped a hotfix and started a deeper audit.

Key Details

Per GamesRadar and Tom’s Hardware, engineer Timothy D. Meadows said linked Discord users could have private messages and full Discord bearer tokens written to local plaintext logs.  Reporting said the issue was tied to Discord SDK logging, and applied to players who connected Discord to ARC Raiders.  Embark said the data was not sent off the player’s machine, said it would disable the Discord SDK logging, and said it began a broader internal audit.  GamesRadar reported post hotfix testing suggested the logs were no longer being created.

Breakdown

This story hit because the core claim was serious right away. Private DMs are one thing, but bearer tokens are the bigger nightmare fuel, because those can potentially open the door to account access if they fall into the wrong hands. Per reports, the data stayed local, but local plaintext logging is still a major problem when crash files, shared PCs, or malware enter the picture.

The good news for Embark is that this was not a slow-roll response. The studio moved fast, acknowledged the Discord SDK angle, and pushed a hotfix instead of pretending the problem was overblown. That does not erase the scare, but it does matter.

The bigger issue now is trust. Players can live with bugs. Privacy bugs hit different, especially when linked social accounts are involved. Embark saying no personal data left the machine helps, but the deeper audit is the part that really matters next. If there were any adjacent logging or permissions problems, that is what players will want answers on.

What to Watch Next

Any direct follow-up from Embark that explains exactly what changed in the hotfix Whether Discord comments publicly on the SDK behavior described in reports Whether more affected file paths or edge cases are identified by security researchers Whether Embark recommends players relink Discord or rotate credentials as a precaution

Comment

Do privacy bugs like this make you stop linking social accounts to games, or do you just wait for the fix?
